My Fabulous Oliver Martino Wedding Dress and 1920s Inspired Party (reception) Dress

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

The last time I shared a wedding related blog post I was still planning my wedding.

Well guess what…

I’z MARRIED NOW!

And while I want to share all the beautiful details from that perfect day, I know I have to pace myself. When I do share details about anything, I like to be very specific.

So first things first..

My DRESSES. Plural. My wedding dress and my party dress because it wouldn’t be right if this party girl didn’t have a party dress.

My Wedding Dress:

I walked down the aisle in a gorgeous Oliver Martino gown fit for the Queen I am. The dress is a gorgeous beaded piece, beaded from top to bottom in a mesmerizing and very intricate geometric pattern. I loved it and how unique it was. I knew from the very beginning I didn’t want a dress with florals so the shapes sold me! Along with the very deep and sexy plunge in the front and the back and the way it SPARKLED when the light hit it just right.

The original dress had a different color for the lining of the skirt but I didn’t like how that clashed with my dark brown skin so I had them change it to ivory and make my train three times longer! Game changer.

The original, when I said yes to the dress!

Right before I walked out the house and down the aisle! I was so anxious and ready to see my man!

I share all the details about the day I said “yes to the dress” here.

My Party Dress:

I fell in love with the beaded elements of my wedding dress and ended up wearing a beaded dress to my bridal shower! So to keep up with the theme I saw happening I decided I wanted my party dress to be beaded as well! And as soon as I decided that I couldn’t get the idea of the 1920s flapper out of my head. Beaded fringe? Heck yeah!

How I found my gorgeous dress:

Well this was actually a whole blessing. So like most things I waited last minute to find a dress. The original dress I saw online that I really wanted had to be ordered 6 months in advance and I was a month away from my wedding and it cost about $6000 sooo… scratch that!

I looked all over the internet for something similar but...NOTHING. It wasn’t until I was on my lunch break at my new job just walking along, minding my merry Black business that I spotted a storefront with the most gorgeous beaded dresses I had ever seen! And my dress? Was right there on display. Maaaan I hit that sidewalk u-turn so quick! I walked in the store and all around me were beaded dresses that looked like they were sewn by God Himself. I couldn’t believe it. The store was also on the same block as my job! I asked them how much the dress was and they said $250. I went back the next day and bought it. Boom! With my wedding only a few short weeks away I was so happy!

It was at that moment that I remembered I work in the Garment District. Perfect time to start a job in the Garment District if you ask me lol Gotta love NYC.

Here's a video of the shakey shake shake of this dress!!

Both of my dresses were so ME! They represented my style oh so well and I felt absolutely gorgeous in both. They were bold without being obnoxious, chic, flattering and they did what needed to be done. Just like me.
