You can get treated like a queen everyday and still get excited for Valentines day because...WHY NOT?
It’s Valentine's Day and almost all the stores are decorated with red and pink balloons. Love birds are getting ready for date night and gal pals are stacking up on wine for Galentines.
It’s all so cute. Love is in the air...annnnnnd so is bitterness. Because here comes the sad, “If your girl is excited about Valentines day then you aren’t doing something right every other day” posts. The “You gotta wait a whole year to feel special?” posts. And lets not forget the “Everyday is Valentines Day when you're with this right person”. Ok first of all
Probably not, huh?
Everyday is not Valentine's day when you're with the right person. Everyday can be special. Everyday can include the exchange of gifts that show love and affection. Everyday can be fun and filled with adventures that create memories to last a lifetime but Valentine's Day is once a year. Let people enjoy things!
Now I know, this might all sound biased coming from someone in a relationship but hear me out. Most of these comments tend to come from other people in relationships. Why? I have no clue but it all looks like insecurities and as we would say in Jamaica, “dem mussi bad mind”. I don't know, it's not my business. But I’ve also had these feelings for years, way before I got in a relationship--I understand that everyday and all these little holidays have their own purpose. Capitalism aside, because not everyone gets excited about this day to spend all their money, let'd be serious here. Valentines Day is about spreading love and friendship. Some people just really enjoy the fact that there's a day with a whole theme about love.
It's me, I'm "some people"
I’m in a relationship with someone who makes me feel like the Queen of the universe every single day. With his words, with his gifts and especially with his actions. And with all that love received the other 364 days of the year I still get excited for Valentines day because it’s freaking cute and brings forth another day to run out into the world, or stay home, and create beautiful adventures that will fill our hearts forever...on the day with a whole theme about love.
These days Valentine's day isn't even just for lovers. Galentines as previously mentioned, celebrates platonic relationships especially those among women. Ladies will throw cute parties, with themes if they’re feeling festive, and spread the love amongst each other. Love isn’t just about being romantic. Love is everywhere and I pray you will all find it in all your relationships--especially the one you have with yourself.
So if you don’t celebrate Valentines Day, for whatever reason, that’s perfectly fine. You don’t even get off from work, so do you boo.
But hey…before you open your mouth or one of your social media apps to say something negative hear me out one last time
