Going to the gym helped me physically & MENTALLY

Updated: Mar 21, 2024

Hey, Hi, HELLO! It’s been so long since I’ve shared a blog post!

So much life has been happening since the last time I shared a post. I traveled quite a bit last year. Rome, Italy, Antigua and the Dominican Republic! Oop and I made my TV debut this year –that’s what I was doing in DR. Filming a whole TV show! I got to travel to film a tv show called Saint X and it's currently streaming on HULU. I’m in 3 episodes. eeeppp

I want to elaborate on all the traveling and life updates in separate blog posts for sure but right now I feel compelled to talk about some lifestyle changes I've recently made and I’m still making.

I’m a gym girlie now. How it started.

I have a gym membership and everything and guess what? I actually go. Haha!

I started going to the gym for my mental health. I was down bad in 2021 and my mental health took a big hit. It was an impulse decision I made one day. I was in bed, crippled with sadness, and though it felt so much easier to just lay there and be sad I said “no I’m gonna get up and do something. Life is gonna go on with or without me and I want to participate”. I remember walking past a 24 hour fitness days before with no idea how any of this stuff went. I put on my workout clothes and headed to the gym. I was on a mission.

I’d go every now and then to clear my head and feel like I had some control over my life.

When I first started going I had no clue what I was doing. I’d go, get on the elliptical, do a whole programmed workout on the thing and then go home. Eventually I started using some of the machines like the leg press, chest press etc. Working my way up to feeling comfortable enough using free weights in public.

How the gym has helped me.

Not too long after, I began to notice a shift in how I was feeling mentally and I started to see a shift in my physical. My legs were getting firmer and my butt was getting rounder. Oop! Harpo, who dis woman?

IT'S ME! I'M HER. aooow 💅🏾

One of my favorite things is the discipline I now have.

Lemme tell you. The discipline I’ve gained from working out and challenging myself has shown its face in every aspect of my life. I’m now so much more disciplined in my prayer and work life as well. There is nothing I can’t do.

It amazes me how much taking care of myself physically also took care of me mentally.

The gym and me, now.

It is now 2023 and I have

once again signed up for a gym membership.

I love it y'all. I’m at a point now where I’ll be saying “I’m craving a workout” lol I’m actually going to workout after I finish writing this. It’s a major part of my life now and it’s something I always make sure to schedule in my routine.

I’m even looking into pilates. Who knows? Is it time to enter my pilates girlie era?

We’ll see 👀

One thing’s for certain is that I won’t give up on the gym and I will never ever give up on me.

Xo,

Manda
