Whew! Indoor dining in NYC is back on and we wasted no time seeing what was up.

Ty actually decided to surprise me with a fun date night to the iconic Jazz club Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem NYC. The week prior to our date I was doing about a million back to back auditions (Pilot season) and he saw how exhausted I was and decided to treat me to a night of food and a live show! Gotta love him lol

A long time ago Ty and I made a pact that we will visit every major jazz spot in NYC and all over America. We’ve been to quite a few in NYC and New Orleans, so it’s no surprise Minton’s was on our list. It is the birthplace of modern jazz also known as Bebop and a historic landmark in Harlem. With past pioneering performers such as Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Kenny Clarke, Charlie Christian, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie do you even have to question why this place is as iconic as it is?

Regardless of whether or not you’re a jazz fan I think you’d enjoy this spot. The ambience was so dreamy with an intimate yet socially distanced setting. Perfect for a girls night out, a night out alone or a night with your love bug-- all things I witnessed that night. The food was good and the performance was amazing. Grammy winning Writer and Vocalist J. Hoard blew my mind with his vocals and stage presence. His rendition of Sade’s “Kiss of Life'' was EVERYTHING and y'all know not everybody can sing some Sade. The other musicians like Mike King and Endea Owens were amazing as well-- I love seeing young Black people on stage doing their thing and doing it with as much beauty and confidence as they did.

Would I go back to Minton’s Playhouse? Most definitely. So the next time you get ready to type in “Jazz Clubs near me” or “Things to do in NYC” keep this in mind.

Below is a vlog from that day where you can see our day from start to finish including some other dope spots we visited in Harlem.
